Intel Customer Spotlight Webinar with LLNL Ft. Penguin Computing™

Our customer, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) recently sat down with Industry Influencer, Tim Crawford for an episode of Intel’s Customer Spotlight. The episode delves into what LLNL is up to, what their mission is, as well as challenges they faced when adding more computing capacity to their nuclear science initiative. Moreover, they discuss how the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) funded the building of the Magma supercomputer.

Magma, a 4.6 petaFLOPS supercomputer, is built on the Penguin Computing™ Relion® 2142eAP server platform which consists of 752 nodes with Intel Xeon Platinum 9242 (Cascade Lake-AP) processors. The cluster also has 293 terabytes of memory, liquid cooling provided by CoolIT Systems and Intel Omni-Path interconnects. Magma was built to support NNSA’s Life Extension Program and efforts critical to ensuring the safety, security and reliability of the nation’s nuclear weapons in the absence of underground testing.

Learn how Penguin Computing is working together with Intel and CoolIT to engineer the most effective system to meet and achieve all of LLNL’s goals. With the feedback received from LLNL, we will continue to work with our partners to improve all aspects of their systems during their lifetime, using these experiences and learned knowledge to strengthen our next generation of products.
