Penguin Solutions Sponsored Student Cluster Competition Team, TexaCal, at SC22
Penguin Solutions is excited to have supported the Student Cluster Competition (SCC) at Supercomputing 2022 (SC22). Penguin Solutions sponsored and provided mentorship to our student team, TexaCal. The team of six students utilized our sleek Altus 2214 and 12 Nvidia A100s. The three node configuration gave the team the flexibility needed to cope with both high (4,000 watts) and extremely low (~1,500 watts) competition power caps.
The SCC was developed in 2007 to provide an immersive high performance computing experience to undergraduate and high school students. With sponsorship from hardware and software vendor partners, student teams design and build small clusters, learn scientific applications, apply optimization techniques for their chosen architectures, and compete in a non-stop 48-hour challenge at the SC conference.
The competition aims to immerse students in the real-world challenges of running a modern hybrid cloud HPC, AI, and DL systems and serves as a critical stepping-stone for the future generation of HPC, AI, and DL professionals. Penguin is proud to have played a part in enabling one of this year’s competing student teams.
Special thanks goes out to Patrick Ward, Phil Pokorny, Daniel Bosworth, and Dan Sheets for providing technical mentorship, software setup, hardware configuration, logistical support, and more to our TexaCal team!
